Playschemes are suitable for all children aged 5-12 years and aim to provide creative and fun play opportunities for all children in a safe and stimulating environment. They run during February and October Half Terms, Easter and for four weeks of the Summer Holidays and we offer three types of Playscheme:
- CIW sites – accessible during February, October, Easter and Summer and registered with CIW to provide all day play for children aged 5-12 years old, from 10:00am - 3.00pm daily. There is a maximum number of spaces for all children aged 5 - 12 years that Playscheme is able to take daily and these places are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
- Sessional - a maximum two hour session delivered in local communities for children aged 5 to 12 years.
- Outreach – outreach is delivered outdoors in open spaces in local communities, in ALL weather conditions. These sessions last for no longer than 2 hours and are spread across the city.
- Specialist - Specialist Playscheme runs during the summer holidays for children and young people aged 5-18 years who have complex care needs. To attend this Playscheme a referral must be made by a professional to the Play Team.
All our provisions are child centred and so the children are the decision makers with regards to what activities they would like to do. Activities such as multisports, theme days, messy play, den building, arts and crafts and free play are just a few of the things children can take part in.
Newport City Council playschemes are open access, children may arrive and leave the playscheme at any time during the published hours although parents are asked to instruct their child not to leave the site without telling a playworker.
Newport City Council does not accept any responsibility for the care, control and supervision of children travelling to the Playscheme or after they have left the site.
Should any child wish to leave playscheme during the day, they are required to sign in and out and ensure they notify a playworker of their departure.
